From the Publisher:
The pull between us was almost tangible, like an actual cord tugging me towards him. As I tried to make sense of it, I even looked down to ensure we weren't somehow tethered, but found nothing. Yet, the connection was undeniable. For a moment, time seemed to stand still as we stared at each other, the room fading away until it was just the two of us.
Suddenly, the spell was broken as Persephone, Ty's mother, appeared beside him, her eyes wide with what seemed like horror as she glanced between us. "No," she uttered, the disbelief and abject horror in her tone disheartening and moderately insulting. She wrapped her arm around Ty's shoulders, tugging him away, her desperation palpable. "Come. Now."
To his credit, Ty didn't budge, his gaze remaining locked with mine, as if he were trying to convey a silent message that I couldn't quite grasp, for I was too mesmerized by his presence. Persephone muttered something to her son, but the words were lost on me, my mind too preoccupied with the sound of his every breath and the thundering of our heartbeats.
Before anyone could move or speak further, Ty's father, Dominic Keller, arrived. His face ghostly pale, he looked at me as if I had two heads, leaning in to whisper to Ty. After a nod from his son, Ty and his parents slowly walked away, his gaze burning a hole into my soul as he turned to watch me over his shoulder. I wanted to follow him, to close the distance between us, but the whispers spreading through the dining hall like wildfire held me in place.
Sabrina soon pulled me into the kitchen, gently pushing me into a chair as she paced back and forth, muttering "Oh my god" repeatedly. I sat there in a daze, my heart throbbing, the adrenaline rush leaving me shaky and weak. Adam, ever the friend, shoved a plate of food into my hands, and I smiled at him, wishing he could have been the one I was destined for.
Sabrina's grip on my knees brought me back to the present, and her question made it clear that I was fully aware of what had just transpired. I'd met my fated mate, Ty Keller, the future alpha, and the connection between us was undeniable. As I savored the taste of the bread roll, I couldn't help but long to see his expression, the shock, the disbelief, and the underlying passion and desire, up close and without the prying eyes of the crowd.
